Youghal Famine Trail

Youghal was badly hit by the Great Irish Famine and the population rapidly declined from almost 12,000 to just over 4,000. The trail takes in 14 stages - explaining the Workhouses, the Famine Relief Schemes, the Fever Sheds, the Pauper Graveyard, the story of Youghal Lace, the Food Riots . The trail takes about 90 minutes, on a flat terrain. It starts and finishes at the Town Hall, also called the Mall Arts Centre. There are 7000 steps in the trail, one for each person lost to Youghal by death or emigration.
