You've heard of World Book Day - which takes place on the first Thursday of March every year - but have you heard of World Book Night?
This Saturday, April 23rd marks World Book Night, an annual event run by UK charity The Reading Agency. The event is all about spreading a love for books and celebrating the impact that they have had on our lives.
The event is geared towards adults and young adults. Whilst World Book day focuses on fostering a love of reading among children, World Book Night gives grownups an opportunity to do the same.
<a href="https://worldbooknight.org/" target="_self">The Reading Agency</a> is encouraging communities across Britain and Ireland to get involved. There are a few different ways to do this. You can:

<li>Read a book during the reading hour from 7-8 pm.</li>
<li>Gift or share a book with someone in your community.</li>
<li>Set up a reading/book club in your locality.</li>
</ul>
It's up to you how you participate, but it's really about sharing the experience with others if you can. Supporting local establishments works too!
<h3>Local Libraries and Bookshops</h3>
We often take our local libraries for granted, but these small hubs are a vital community resource. Not everyone has money to spend on books, but a library card is a powerful thing. Free access to information (not the misleading kind!), as well as the internet, can empower and inspire people.&nbsp;
Libraries are important learning and creativity hubs for kids too. Reading promotes a love of storytelling, fuels imagination, and aids in the development of their communication skills.&nbsp;
If you prefer to buy books, avoid buying online from international retailers. Staff members at independent, local bookshops often give the best recommendations — their knowledge and passion are second to none.&nbsp;
This Saturday, support your local bookshop by picking up a couple of new books. Whether it's for yourself, a loved one, or a neighbour, you really can't go wrong with the gift of a good book!
