On your right hand side as you enter the North Abbey Graveyard is the Pauper Graveyard. During the Famine large numbers were buried in communal pits. No individual record remains and probably there were other burial areas used as well. We do not know. Before the Famine there were just under 13,000 people in Youghal. One generation later the population was just over 4,000. Records for the Workhouse in Youghal are kept in the County Archives in Cork city. They detail the names and addresses of those admitted, family details, physical health and occupation, date of admission and death.
