Welcoming Gort to The Xplore Platform!
We would like to extend a huge welcome to the town of Gort which has just gone live on the Xplore platform. Gort has now become part of our growing network of towns that extends from Galway to Kerry, to Cork and Carlow.
We are delighted that Gort now has a digital platform to serve the needs of locals and tourists alike — especially in times like these when shopping and exploring locally has never been more important.
The Gort launch comes less than 2 months after fellow East Galway town Portumna joined the Xplore network. It's indicative of a wider movement in towns across the country, where enterprising locals are seeking out new and efficient ways to boost their local economies, attract tourists and promote their towns' amenities.
Laura Tannian of the Burren Lowlands initiative has been working tirelessly over the past number of months to get the app ready for release. She says:
'This platform provides the people of Gort and visitors to the area with digital access to local businesses. Everything is going online nowadays, this clever solution will be of great benefit to locals, businesses and tourists. It provides users with a complete guide to everything that's happening in Gort, the services that are available and the hidden gems that are to be seen.'
Gort is a historical market town in East Galway, known for its ties to W.B Yeats and its well-preserved 18th & 19th-century landmarks. A thriving community, it’s home to a wide variety of authentic local businesses, clubs and organisations.
Gort also has plenty to offer in the way of historical attractions, such as its restored famine buildings, town square 'Weigh House' and the Kiltartan Gregory Museum. The stunning Coole Park, only a 5-minute drive away, offers woodland trails and lake views. Thoor Ballylee — the 15th-century tower famously occupied W.B Yeats and his family — is also a short drive from the town.
