A round-up of some of the best online events taking place this Friday the 17th of September:

Leinster House Virtual Tour

Get a peek inside the iconic government building that has witnessed almost 100 years of Irish political history. This virtual heritage tour will take you through the story of the house, from its inception in 1748 to the restoration works that have taken place in recent years.

A Night Among the Stars - DIAS Dunsink Observatory

Ever wonder what the view looks like from Ireland's oldest astronomical observatory? Pretty spectacular, we'd guess. Find out for yourself with this virtual tour of the 230-year-old Dunsink Observatory and its ancient telescope. There will also be a talk held on the night with some astrophysicists and a chance for you to ask the experts some questions!

Time: 5.30pm - 6.30pm, 7pm - 8pm, 8.30pm - 9:30pm.

Music Generation Kerry

This one's for all those aspiring young musicians out there. Music Generation Kerry (a branch of Ireland's national music education programme) is offering rap, hip hop, and computer game music workshops to kids aged 8-17. 

The classes will be led by Irish rapper Sean Murphy, aka Spekulativ Fiktion. No experience or software downloads needed!

Eat Spain - Instituto Cervantes Dublin

Cork Academy of Music - Online Concert with Brian Morey

Join Irish musician Brian Morey as he performs live at the Cork Academy of Music. He'll be singing a range of well-known songs by various artists such as John Spillane, Thomas Davies, and Ruby Horse. Tune in for a night of music and nostalgia!

Battle of the Axe - Comedy and Open Mic Club

This comedy and open mic club was established in 1996 and is still going strong today. Due to the pandemic, they haven't been able to open their doors for shows - but this Culture Night, they'll be live-streaming some of their acts on their website. 

Check them out for some laughs and a chance to see new and established performers in action!

Creating a Culture of #NoStigma - St. Patrick's Mental Health Services

What does a world without mental health stigma mean to you? This is the question asked by St. Patrick's Mental Health Services of people in their Dublin community, in a bid to explore the connection between culture and mental health. 

Watch community members give their heartfelt answers to the question in this short film streaming on Friday.

Bó - Mieke Vanmechelen

The award-winning film, Bó, will be available to watch for free on Vimeo this Culture Night. It's a moving, emotional story of the Kerry cow, which is an endangered animal in Ireland. Filmmaker Mieke Vanmechelen worked with the local community to chronicle what they are doing to protect the breed. It has been screened at international festivals and won Best of Kerry at the Kerry International Film Festival 2020.

Pizzica Italian Traditional Dance Workshop - Infinitwirl Dance Project

Eliana Valentini (dance teacher, performer, art director and visual artist at the Infinitwirl Dance Project) will host this workshop that encourages you to get your dancing shoes on at home. Let the experts help you learn the 'Pizzica', a traditional Italian dance that originated from the South of Italy.

Cork International Film Festival - Celebrating the Irish Language on Film

Showcasing a range of Irish films that were selected for the 65th festival in 2020. Three short films will be featured, including '2020 Best Director: Irish Short winner, ‘Dúirt Tú’ (directed by Shaun Dunne & Zoe Ní Riordáin); 2020 Best Cork Short winner, ‘Ballast’ (Jesse Gilbert); and ‘Iarscoláire’ (Shaun Dunne).'
