Are you a remote worker who's looking for a temporary change of scenery this spring? For a budget-friendly break in the West, look no further than the town of Gort, tucked away between the renowned Burren, Coole Park, and rolling green fields of South Galway.
Here are some reasons why Gort is the ideal base for remote workers looking to explore the West:
The wonderful Lady Gregory Hotel and Sullivans Hotel are now offering 10% off stays to remote workers. Both hotels are located just a quick walk from all of the great shops, cafes, and public amenities that Gort has to offer. Contact the hotels directly to avail of this deal or get in touch with Laura at laura@forgeworks.ie.
Need somewhere besides the hotel grounds to spend your 9-5? Forge Works is Gort's very own enterprise centre with nine private offices that are available to rent by the day, week, or month. The recently-renovated centre also has high-speed internet, a kitchenette, ample parking, and is less than a five-minute walk from Minihane's Supervalu.

Gort is becoming something of a foodie hub with its growing selection of upscale eateries, cosy cafes, and traditional restaurants.
Head to Rooster's Cafe and Farmshop or the Gallery Café for homecooked meals made with locally-sourced meat and veg. Both offer vegan options, light bites, amazing coffee, and click and collect.
The Granary Pizzeria serve up some unreal Italian wood-fired pizzas while The Field Gastropub never fails to impress with their delicious hot food.
The restaurants and bars of both hotels are also popular with locals thanks to their excellent seafood, burgers, pasta dishes and wide selection of wines and spirits.
Gort also has plenty to offer in the way of historical attractions, such as its restored famine buildings, town square 'Weigh House' and the Kiltartan Gregory Museum.
The stunning Coole Park, only a 5-minute drive away, offers woodland trails and lake views. Meanwhile, Thoor Ballylee — the 15th-century tower famously occupied W.B Yeats and his family — is also a short drive from the town.
The amazingly well-preserved Kilmacduagh Monastery can be found about 5km from Gort. It's home to a 10-century, 34 metres tall round tower (ancient buildings which are almost unique to Ireland). This one at Kilmacduagh is the tallest surviving round tower in the world, making it an absolute must-see!
Gort is conveniently located just off the M18 motorway which connects to the M6 and N6 and takes you right into Galway City.
There's also an hourly bus service from Gort to Galway (and vice versa) which gets you into the city in just 40 minutes.
With Gort's train links, you can be in Galway or Limerick in just over an hour. Whether you're heading into the Galway to catch a gig, watch a movie, or walk the prom, there's no need to spend ages looking for parking.
Gort is located close to Co. Clare border, which means that the stunning Cliffs of Moher are a mere 50km away and make for the ideal day trip.
The nearby resort town of Lahinch is well worth a stopover with its seaside restaurants and beautiful beach (which has featured in 'best beaches in Ireland' lists for 2022).
Meanwhile, the gorgeous Burren National Park is less than a 30-minute drive away and the unique attraction of Aillwee Cave is also close by.
. . .
Over the past couple of years, Gort has made great strides in establishing itself as a remote-worker-friendly town. The opening of a brand new enterprise centre, the strengthening of ties to the Grow Remote network, and the growing number of exciting new businesses has made Gort an attractive location for both resident and visiting remote workers.
