Local Business Spotlight: Solastech Insulation

Jason McNamara owns and operates Solastech, a Fermoy-based business specialising in Attic and Cavity Wall Insulation, Mechanical Ventilation Heat Recovery (MVHR), and Central Vacuum. Solastech has been operating for over 13 years and has grown to become a trusted brand in insulation and ventilation across Munster. This week, we caught up with Jason for our Fermoy Business Spotlight.

You are a well-established business with 13 years under your belt, how has your journey been so far and how has your business evolved during that time?

I started out in 2008, so it has been a rollercoaster to say the least... but I was told to 'work hard and always do the job 100% and everything else will fall into place.' 

Why insulate your home with Solastech?

We care about our customer long after the job is done. We have been installing since 2008, and our team have 35 years of experience combined. Not to mention, our team are fully-qualified and fully-insured.

Tell us about your MVHR ventilation systems, why would you recommend this service?

We have been installing MVHR systems since 2012 and have completed 1,000s of projects across Munster. Solastech is also the leading MVHR approved installer in Ireland. 

What grants are available for the services you provide?

We are registered with SEAI and offer different kinds of grants; the most common SEAI grant is €850 to insulate your walls and attic. We can talk customers through the process when they visit our showroom.

In your opinion, what is the key to building a successful local business?

Hard work, being on time, keeping customers fully informed and having the best technicians in the business!

How has Covid-19 affected your business?

Like all businesses in Ireland, it has affected us, but we won't know how much until we can return to work. We are lucky that we have not lost our jobs, but it has had an impact on our operations. 

In better times, what's your favourite Fermoy spot to have a pint, grab a pint, or just sit and watch the world go by?

Coffee in any establishment in Fermoy is a good start. It's also nice to sit on the wall by the river and watch the world go by!

What are you most looking forward to doing after the pandemic?

• Going on a plane!
• Sitting down to a nice meal in a restaurant.
• Getting our freedom back. 

What does it mean to be from Fermoy?

I love Fermoy, it's a great town and thankfully has not changed much over the years. I'm a proud Fermoy man and I'm glad I can offer employment to the town.
