Last week Maria Gilvanda joined her boyfriend, Blue Cassidy, for a picnic on a cliff-top in West Cork, under the impression that they were being filmed for a promotional video on Cork staycations.
To her surprise, however, the drone operated by Niall Duffy of West Cork Photos delivered a ring to Blue who went down on one knee and proposed. Maria said 'yes' and the couple are now planning their wedding.
A community school in Dunboyne, Co. Meath are one of two schools in the country to pilot a 'Community Dog' scheme from the Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind.
The scheme has seen Travis, a 3-year-old black Lab retriever, join the school community as a support to students, especially to those with autism. Looked after by Maths and Geography teacher, Mr McCarrick, Tarvis is reported to have had a significant impact on the well-being of students and staff alike, bringing smiles and a 'calming presence' to those who cross paths with him in corridors or classrooms.
Last week, a farmer in the Dingle Peninsula discovered an ancient tomb while carrying out improvement works on his land.
A digger unearthed an untouched, slab-lined chamber when a large stone slab was lifted up. The 'tomb' is said to be very well preserved; an adjoining chamber held ancient human remains and an oval-shaped, smooth rock was also discovered. Archaeologists believe that it dates back to the Bronze Age (2000BC-500BC) or even earlier due to the unfamiliarity of some of its 'rare' features.
Experts from the National Monuments Service are currently studying the site to learn more about its history.
