Success
Unicef Ireland has launched an appeal to help deliver 2 billion COVID-19 vaccines to vulnerable populations in 92 countries.
The well-known charity organisation is asking for donations to help purchase, transport and administer vaccines to people who do not have access to healthcare. It seeks to vaccinate at-risk families and health workers who live in the most remote and isolated areas around the world.
The appeal slogan is 'Get a vaccine, give a vaccine,' which encourages people to pass on their good fortune to those in need.
Here in Ireland, we will all have the opportunity to receive the vaccine for free in a sanitised, comfortable environment, such as a doctor's surgery or pharmacy. Unfortunately, millions of other people around the world don't have this privilege and will have to rely on the help of charity organisations to prevent themselves from getting seriously ill.
Many of those families have already been denied access to basic vaccines that we received as infants and take for granted. Healthcare is indeed a privilege but if some of us are in a position to pay it forward, then Unicef's COVID-19 appeal is an important and convenient way to do that.
Unicef Ireland has already received donations from 13786 people which amounts to 202,570 vaccines for those in need. If you have the means to donate, you can do so here via their website.
