There's plenty to get up to this Easter bank holiday weekend! It's the first one in over two years that we won't have to spend indoors, so we've compiled a quick list of outings, activities and events to help you and your family make the most of it...
Loads of open farms across the country have just reopened for the spring/summer season, which makes the upcoming easter break the perfect time to visit!
Most open farms will have a variety of activities on offer besides a petting zoo; these might include playgrounds, tractor-trailer rides, indoor soft play areas, go-karting, or tours. The facilities often include tea rooms.
Not to mention, open farms in spring are brimming with cuteness - think adorable little lambs, foals, and calves. Kids will love getting the chance to feed and pet the baby animals while exploring the farm.
Check the 'Attractions' tab of the app to see if there's an open farm near you.
This Easter bank holiday, take advantage of the milder spring weather and rent some bikes for an afternoon.
Most good bike hire shops will have junior bikes for older kids. As these shops are usually family-owned, renting from them is a great way to support local while enjoying some time with your own family.
Feeling adventurous? Make it a day trip and rent a bike from one of the local providers in our Xplore towns (click 'Select Another Town' in the app and browse).
Or hire at one of the towns situated near the greenways in North Kerry Carlow, Limerick, Mayo, Waterford and more - a full list can be found here: https://osi.ie/irelands-greenways-and-trails/.
It's the first time Easter events will be held in over two years, so why not make the most of it this upcoming Easter weekend. There will be a range of events and activities taking place across the county, so keep an eye out locally and online. (Go to News on the app for local suggestions).
Keep the kids busy with some Easter-themed baking! Before they tear into those Easter eggs, grab some baking trays and choose from one of these fun and colourful recipes: https://www.rte.ie/lifestyle/food/2017/0405/865517-5-simple-easter-treats-to-bake-with-your-kids/.
For the adults, here's a recipe for Simnel Cake from the renowned Ballymaloe House: https://www.ballymaloe.ie/recipe/simnel-cake
Get some fresh air in before you dig into that chocolate stash and explore your natural surroundings this weekend with the help of the Xplore Local app.
You can use the Self-Guided Tours feature to learn more about the history of your town, or use the Hikes & Trails feature to find trails near you.
Put a fun, Easter-themed twist on this by hiding some small chocolate eggs along the trail while the kids aren't looking!
