In anticipation of National Heritage Week 2021, which launches this Saturday, we've rounded up a few in-person and virtual events worth checking out near you:

Galway

VIRTUAL: Online Workshop Tour Featuring A Number Of Heritage Objects

This is a live video tour (vlog) of Conservation Letterfrack workshop with Sven Habermann, which will feature a number of historic objects. The tour will give an insight into materials, construction, unique feature and conservation treatments of the selected objects. There will also be time allowed for questions.

IN-PERSON: Discover Galway City from the medieval quarter to the Corrib

We will visit the key sites on this free walking tour, with insights into modern Galway along the way, as well as a journey through 800 years of history. In the medieval quarter, you’ll hear about events both surprising and some gruesome. Then we’ll visit some of the famous and lesser known sites as we make our way through the centre of Galway from John F Kennedy Park to the banks of the river Corrib.

This tour is led by Failte Ireland regional tour guide, Derek Spillane.

VIRTUAL: Athenry Medieval Market's relationship with Athenry Castle

VIRTUAL: Jameson Distillery Bow St. and Midleton - Meet our Coopers

We are delighted to introduce our skilled coopers to you for National Heritage Week 2021. Our coopers dedicate their time to repairing and looking after our precious casks at Jameson Distillery Midleton, a vital part of our whiskey making process. These are the casks in which our whiskey matures for many years. It is a craft at the heart of our whiskey journey and makes for fascinating viewing with their valued skills and traditions passed down through the generations.

IN-PERSON: Seashore Safari with Sea Synergy

The Seashore Safaris will explore Inny strand beach, Waterville. Explore the local seashore with marine biologists who will help you uncover some of the secrets of the creatures living in one of the most extreme environments. We will explore the rock pools and animals that live there, learn cool facts and find crabs, prawns, starfish and much more! Fun and interesting for old and young!

IN-PERSON: History of Díseart Gardens and tour

Enjoy a tour of our beautiful gardens with Head Gardener Breda Enright when she will discuss the history of the place, a former convent garden, while explaining about some of the current planting. Children welcome but must be accompanied by an adult.
