THE Tralee Tourism Kiosk is back on The Mall and, as everybody knows, when that happens, summer has officially begun.
This year, the Tralee Chamber Alliance has recruited over 25 volunteers who are ready to man the kiosk from Monday to Saturday, 10am to 6pm, in two hours shifts. Claire Needham has been volunteering for the past six years and is thrilled to be back on the job for the coming tourism season.
“We mostly get Irish people looking for information but there are plenty of tourists from abroad too.” She said. “If people want a few ideas on where to go and what to do, there’s loads to recommend. I direct them to the County Museum and the Aquadome if they have kids or over to the Wetlands Centre and of course, I’d encourage folks to try the lovely River Walk by the canal over to Blennerville.”
Ann O Donnell from the Tralee Chamber Alliance co-ordinates the volunteering efforts and admits that without the locals, who give up their time for free, the information kiosk wouldn’t be a runner.
“We are really grateful to everyone who signs up to help out. The lived, local knowledge they offer is priceless. Visitors really appreciate that authentic experience.” Ann said.
The kiosk will close in September. Check it out for maps of Tralee, app downloads, activity booklets and all sorts of event information for the coming months, but in the meantime, if you fancy a spot of volunteering, send an email to ann@tralee.ie
