Tralee is home to Ireland’s most unique theatre company and arts centre, the only one dedicated to preserving, developing, and celebrating Irish traditional music, song, and dance. For centuries, these traditions were passed down from one generation to the next, but sadly, from the mid-1900s they were in danger of being lost.

Enter local priest and culture enthusiast, Father Pat Ahern. He founded the National Folk Theatre and set up its Training Academy. Children from the age of six upwards are now trained in the dance steps, traditional tunes, and songs of Ireland, particularly in the Kerry style. The traditional arts are back and thriving!
There is an exciting, multi-generational community of traditional artists in the academy today who not only perform but teach as well. They embody the songs, dances, music, and folklore of Ireland's rich heritage through enthralling, energetic, and emotive performances - the essence of rural and coastal communities in the West. Performances are staged at Siamsa Tíre from May to September, and go on to tour nationally and worldwide.
Anyone can connect directly with this amazing artistic community by joining the Training Academy’s Traditional Masters for interactive workshops in dance, music, and song. Learn Munnix dance steps unique to Kerry, or songs in Gaelic, or maybe try your hand at playing a traditional instrument, belting out a tune from the National Folk Theatre’s repertoire.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Siamsa Tíre also champions art. Works are exhibited throughout the year in its beautiful, unique gallery space and is available to view online. Check out the website for dates and upcoming events.

As well as staging its own productions, Siamsa Tíre invites national and international theatre groups, musicians, comedians, dance and opera companies to perform in its 350-seat tiered theatre. Local groups and musical societies often perform here too.
Throughout the year, there are events to mark the Celtic calendar, highlighting key folk rituals and social customs. This year, midsummer and Samhain are in focus, with festivals planned to celebrate these mystical times of year.&nbsp;
The Homecoming Visitors Centre is another attraction at Siamsa Tíre. Here, you'll get an insight into the historical richness and practice of Irish music, song, and dance.
The Siamsa Tíre building is an absolute gem. Constructed 30 years ago, it’s a replica of a Staigue Fort, a Bronze Age fort found on the coast of South Kerry.&nbsp;
