What resolutions have you set this year? Have you vowed to re-boot your health and fitness routine? Maybe take up a hobby and emerge as a new and improved version of yourself in the process? The good news is you can achieve all of the above, and have buckets of fun, by taking part in classes starting in Siamsa Tíre this January, while immersing yourself in the world of traditional Irish music, song, and dance.
As the National Folk Theatre of Ireland, Siamsa Tíre has always devoted itself to sharing and sustaining tradition, passing it on from one generation to the next. Youngsters from all over Kerry have excelled at its Folk Training Academy, led by this generation’s masters of tradition. Now, you can be part of that tradition. Classes are being offered world-wide, to people everywhere, no matter what their age or levels of experience.
In-person classes will go ahead at the theatre in Tralee for adults and children. Online classes for all age groups will be available on demand so anyone with an interest in traditional Irish music, song or dance can learn at a time and place that suits them. Classess will be headed up by four of Siamsa Tíre’s professional performers.
The Artistic Director Jonathan Kelliher, one of the best exponents of the North Kerry style in Ireland, will teach dance. Siamsa Tíre’s Musical Director, Tom Hanafin, a multi-talented musician and composer, will teach music and Joanne Barry, Siamsa's Repertory Director, and Choral Director Martina Ryan Murphy, will teach you how to sing.
All four performers learned from masters of tradition and they want to share that wealth of knowledge with you. They don’t care what age you are or how much or how little you know, so no excuses. Now is your chance to learn something amazing. I feel a sean nós song coming on!
Start 2022 by embracing the wonderful world of Irish traditional culture and have fun singing, dancing, and making music in the process. These classes start at the end of January. Visit https://www.siamsatire.com/events/share-the-traditions for more information or to book your place.
