Tralee is storming ahead in the food stakes. With a healthy mix of artisan cafés and restaurants offering rustic, new-age and traditional fare, it's no wonder. Tralee is home to a growing movement of producers who are masively dedicated to sustainability. Here's a little taster of local specialities to whet your appitite. Live like a native and give them a go.

<li>Serious about coffee? Visit The Roast House in Denny Street, the only place in Kerry to boast its very own custom-made roaster. Owner, Ronan Hurley knows all about organic beans and takes great pride in mixing just the right blends for the perfect cup of coffee.</li>
<li>How far would you go for a good bag of chips? We’re talking old-school, hand-cut, crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside chunks of potato heaven. In Tralee, you only have to go as far as Pembroke Street and The Green Rooster. Trading for over 70 years, this take-away is an established institution in town.&nbsp;</li>
<li>If soft, fluffy scrambled eggs are your thing, go to Wild Café, on the corner of Ash Street. The chef uses four free-range eggs in a super- hot pan, unsalted butter and a dash of cream. Finished off with a sprig of pea shoots, it's a simple pleasure, but aren't these the best?</li>

<li>Butter-cream or fresh? If you’re fresh cream all the way, you’ll love O’Mahony’s Black Forest Gateaux with its juicy cherries, chocolate flakes and light, fluffy sponge. Actually, you’ll probably love everything at O’Mahony’s. This family-owned bakery, beloved by locals, is tucked in amongst a row of stone cottages in Boherbee at the North side of town. Arrive before lunch for the best picks.&nbsp;</li>
<li>This Apple Cake dessert is unique to 7th Heaven in Ashe Street. The curious creation draws oohs and aahs every time it arrives at the table and hits the right spot for your Insta feed - this work of art will rack up likes in seconds.&nbsp;</li>

<li>There are lots of places to get pizza in Tralee, but according to locals, Pizza Time in The Square consistently produces the best, thinnest base. Owner, Ewed Elhainf, has been known to make his own yeast on occasion too. All pizzas are baked in a gas fired-oven. Ingredients are fresh and toppings range from traditional pepperoni and olives to less conventional capers, ham and eggs.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Sharing is caring at the Ashe Hotel when you order their Giant Cookie Pan. Baked in an iron skillet and served hot, complete with three scoops of ice cream and drizzled with golden toffee sauce, it's not so much a desert as an experience. Ask for two spoons.</li>

<li>Great Irish coffee is guaranteed at Turner's Bar. They use only locally sourced ingredients to make possibly one of the best Irish Coffee in the kingdom. Freshly whipped cream from Kerry cows, local organic honey sourced from up the road, and Roe &amp; Co Irish Whiskey, all blend to give a refined, elegant flavour with notes of mellow spun sugar and a hint of spiced pears and woody vanilla. Honestly, it's too good.</li>
<li>With well over 100 different varieties, Bailey’s Corner has the most extensive selection of whiskey in Kerry and most likely in Munster. They offer tasting sessions, which can be booked in advance, and punters can sample four whiskies each, enjoy a lively talk on the history behind their chosen samples, then buy a bottle of Midleton Single Pot Still for €5k a pop. And why not.</li>
<li>There's steak, then there's dry-aged steak from Croí, a multi-award winning restaurant in Princess Street. While most restaurants age their steak for fourteen days, Noel Keane’s average steaks are aged for a minimum of 40! The flavour is intense and the meat is melt-in-the-mouth.
