Killarney Knockreer & Ross Castle Loop

This 8km loop route in the Knockreer area of Killarney National Park has beautiful scenery and peaceful surrounds. All the route is within the boundaries of the National Park so there are no cars on the loop. The only traffic will be from horse-drawn carriages, joggers and other walkers, which are more likely to be around Ross Castle during the busier Summer months. For the most part walkers will have the route to themselves. Knockreer & Ross Castle Loop is open all year round, but note that areas near Ross Castle may be prone to flooding after heavy rains. There are public toilets at Ross Castle and Deenagh Lodge Snack Shop and Cafe at the entrance to Killarney National Park is open from April to October. Deenagh Lodge is located at the park entrance opposite St. Mary's Church, about a ten minute walk from Killarney Town Centre. It is possible to start the route from Ross Castle which is a 3km trip from Killarney town centre by car, bus or horse-drawn carriage. Many people start from the entrance by Deenagh Lodge. The route is mostly flat bar an incline for the first 500 metres and a similar descent towards the end of the loop. Parking is available on the Port Road directly outside the entrance but it can be quite busy during the Summer months. A cycle path and footpath are available on Mission road directly from the town centre to the entrance.
