As the city of festivals, Galway is adding a new string to its bow with the launch of the Climate Festival, taking place from September 12th-15th 2024.
The festival programme includes President Mary Robinson, Philip Boucher Hayes, Ella McSweeney, John Spillane and Joe Brolly.
This latest initiative entitled ‘Climate Inspirations - Communities in Action’ aims to change the narrative around climate action to one of positivity.
It will harness Galway’s creative energy, theatrical, musical, art, active travel, sport, Gaeilge and food cultures.
Speaking about the festival, Chief Executive of Galway City Council, Leonard Cleary said:
“Galway City Council wants to be at the forefront of Climate Action in the country and I am delighted that our Climate Team is organising such an innovative and positive festival.
"It will bring people along with us on the journey to collectively reduce our Greenhouse gas emissions and create a fun, healthier and more liveable city whilst we are doing it.’’
Mayor of the City of Galway, Cllr. Peter Keane said:
“The Elected Members adopted the Galway City Climate Action Plan in February 2024, and this is exactly the type of positive action required. I welcome this new festival and hope that it will be used a springboard for further community engagement in the years ahead.’’
