Galway City Council will host a ‘drop in’ information evening on Affordable Housing on Monday, November 25th from 4pm-8pm, in the Connacht Hotel, Old Dublin Road.&nbsp;
On the evening, staff will be available to meet with members of the public to discuss affordable housing options. Burkeway Homes will also be at the event to share information on the first Affordable Units being delivered in <a href="https://xploreapp.io/galway" target="_blank">Galway </a> City in over a decade. The Garraí na Sailí development on Letteragh Road is anticipated to be delivered in Summer 2025. Registration for the information evening is open at www.GalwayCity.ie

<h4>The Affordable Purchase Scheme</h4>
Under the Affordable Purchase Scheme, Galway City Council will make newly built homes available at a reduced price for first-time and other eligible buyers, who cannot afford to purchase a home at its open market value, even with a maximum mortgage and 10% deposit.
Louise Esler, Housing Capital, Galway City Council explained,&nbsp;
<blockquote>“Under the Affordable Housing scheme, the local authority will take a percentage equity share in your home equal to the difference between the open market value of the home and the reduced price paid. This means that if you buy a home at a 20% reduction on the open market value, the local authority will have a 20% equity share in your home. This information evening will give the public a chance to ask questions about how the scheme operates, and to find out more about the affordable units coming on stream in Garraí na Sailí next year.”</blockquote>

Speaking about the information evening, Elizabeth Fanning, Acting Director of Services, commented,&nbsp;

There is considerable demand for affordable homes in the city and a range of regulatory frameworks and funding mechanisms to support delivery”.</blockquote>

The information evening follows a recent Galway City Council and Galway County Council breakfast briefing on affordable housing for developers, focusing on a solutions-based approach to the housing crisis.
