Success
Flowerhill is based on 250 acres of beautiful east Galway countryside. They are surrounded by the best possible cross-country and horse riding environment including green fields, woodlands, the Kilcrow river, and wonderful wildlife. You can gallop across open fields, swim through the lake, and splash in the Kilcrow river, scaring away the fish as you go. Ride with them by the hour, a full day (2-3 rides per day) or join them for one of our longer programmes. Rides usually go out daily at 10.00 am and 1.30 pm but can change to suit our customer's needs. Horse riding options include show jumping and dressage tuition, cross-country workshops, exercising orjust going for a leisurely hack. Private cross-country or showjumping clinics for individual riders can also be arranged. Flowerhill cross-country fences include a mixture of natural logs, stone walls, ditches and a huge variety of man made obstacles. Most of the 150 fences include 2 or more options, so whether you are a nervous novice or a confident competitor, they can cater for your needs. Take a look at some of our fences in our photo galleries to give you an idea of the variety and options available. The riding standard for their cross-country course varies from novice, through intermediate and right up to advanced open. Ideally, all riders should be confident in walk trot and canter. Absolute beginners are also welcome at Flowerhill but please let us know well in advance so they can accommodate for this. Flowerhill have over 45 active working horses who are a cross between the solid and sensible Irish draught and the thoroughbred. This results in a sport horse with a great jumping ability, common sense and courage. All of the horses are cross-country and hunting veterans who will take good care of you during your stay. They take particular care to match each rider with the horse best suited to them so that everyone feels comfortable and safe while having the best fun during their time at Flowerhill. Oliver accompanies most of the rides and always provides words of encouragement and advice along the way. All riders must wear an approved standard riding skullcap helmet and body protector. Comfortable stretch pants or jodhpurs and suitable footwear should be worn with traditional riding boots or short heeled boots being the best choice. A light rainproof jacket is also a good idea in the summertime as we get an occasional rain shower.
