<h3>A section of the Macroom bypass will open today (Friday).</h3>
The new road linking Coolcower to Carrigaphooca will be the first bit of the 22km stretch to open, and is set to be a game-changer according to local business owners &#8211; alleviating decades of heavy traffic through the town.
It will be welcome news for Kerry motorists and when it&#8217;s fully open, the bypass will cut around 30 minutes on a typical journey between Cork and Killarney.
A temporary roundabout has been built just west of the Carrigaphooca junction to allow the first section to open.
The final phase will open sometime next year.
&ldquo;Macroom has struggled with traffic congestion for some time now. We look out the window here in the pharmacy, and it is just bumper-to-bumper with no one intending to stop in the town,&rdquo; Henry Murphy of Matt Murphy&rsquo;s Pharmacy in Macroom said.
&ldquo;There are already signs of increased footfall, which of course is a hugely important step in rebuilding the town&#8217;s identity. It will be the first time in many years that both locals and visitors will be able to park with ease and truly appreciate all that Macroom has to offer.&rdquo;
