Together they gathered outside the Great Southern Killarney and presented Máire Breathnach from Down Syndrome Kerry (DSK) with a cheque.
“We donated to Down Syndrome Kerry and a number of other local beneficiaries from the Afternoon Tea event held in October,” Ciara Irwin-Foley from Killarney Rotary told the Killarney Advertiser.
Máire, who has a child with Down Syndrome, said it was great to get the much needed donation.
“We are a parent led group with no Government funding,” she said.
“What we collect we spend in providing therapeutic and support services and life skills programmes. We provide support up to third level.”
She added that they are also planning a new employment support initiative.
“It has been advertised for. That will help support our young adults with employment in Kerry. We’re looking for the support of the community in terms of employers open to it. Our adult members want to work and be full members of society. Inclusivity is the name of the game.”
