<h3>What must be one of the most unusual videos ever produced in Killarney has been released by Red Bull in an effort to promote the Drift Masters European Championship.</h3>
The spectacular video shows drifting champion Conor Shanahan driving his Toyota GT86 at seemingly impossible angles on the N71.
The video was shot last month under an official road closing order granted by Kerry County Council.
It was recorded at several well-known locations along the route, including Derrycunnihy Church, Ladies View and Moll’s Gap.
The whole process was done under a shroud of secrecy, only a handful of local motorsport enthusiasts were made aware of the event beforehand and some members of local motor clubs were on hand to marshal proceedings.
The film has been distributed worldwide – drifting is particularly popular in Eastern European countries – and will showcase Killarney and its environs to a very different and new audience.
It is being used as a pre-season promotional video ahead of the opening round of the European Drift Masters Championship which gets underway this weekend in Mondello Park in County Kildare.
“With so many of our incredible fans and drivers patiently waiting for the day when we can finally get back on track, we needed to ensure that once we could do so, we could pull out all the stops to make this season not only the most adrenaline-fuelled, entertainment-filled season we’ve ever pieced together, but also the most competitive season Drift Masters European Championship has ever seen,” said an event spokesperson.
Cork man Shanahan is a designated Red Bull athlete, like Aghadoe-based World Rally Championship co-driver Paul Nagle who was one of the few guests at the event.
