<h3>The landmark Presentation Convent in Cathedral Place, has been sold for well in excess of its &euro;1.5m asking price.</h3>
The property went on the market last month and estate agents Sherry FitzGerald Coghlan on New St have confirmed that the 1,411 sq. m building has been sold for an undisclosed sum after &#8220;exceptional&#8221; interest in the bidding process.
Estate agent Michael Coghlan was not in a position to say who bought the building and what it will be used for going forward.
&ldquo;It will end up coming to a very good use for the town,&rdquo; he told the Killarney Advertiser. &ldquo;It sold for well in excess of its asking price and we are very happy with the result.&#8221;
The sale heralds the beginning of a new era for that area of town.
Regardless of what plans the new owners have for the building, there is a lot of development set to take place in that area in the coming months and years.
Both secondary schools in that area &#8211; St Brigid&rsquo;s and St Brendan&rsquo;s &ndash; are in the process of extending their buildings.
Before the Presentation nuns left the convent this time last year they gifted some of the convent&rsquo;s grounds to the Department of Education ensuring St Brigid&rsquo;s had land to build its new school building on.
While Mr Coughlan would not reveal who bought the convent he did hint that the sale would enhance the already vibrant education sector in the area.
