Killarney Skatepark took another step closer to reality this week as as contractors are being invited to submit tenders.

Planning permission and funding are in place to build a skatepark on the grounds of Killarney Sports and Leisure Centre on the Bypass Road.

Kerry County Council will now prepare tender documents and contractors will be invited to submit construction plans to build the park.

“This is the stage where the construction of the skatepark is opened up for contractors to bid on the project for the agreed budget, offer design solutions for the skatepark and how best to construct it within the available space,” Seán Murphy, Chairperson, Killarney Skatepark Committee told the Killarney Advertiser.

Tralee’s skatepark began construction last month.

“This is a positive, there will be one skatepark in the county at least this year,” he added.

Once completed, Sean believes that the Killarney Skatepark will be of benefit to both locals and will add another element to Killarney’s tourism offering.
