The new team had its first training session on Wednesday of this week and 30 students from the school turned up.
The team got kitted out Friday in their new gear including hurleys, sliotars, and helmets, made possible by the sponsorship from the Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle.
Coaches Claudia O’Donoghue, a former underage county player with Cork and Conor O’Keeffe, a member of the Kerry Senior hurling panel, are leading the new project at the school.
This year the team hopes to compete in local challenge matches against other camogie schools like Causeway and Mounthawk Tralee ahead of entering a Munster Schools’ Championship next season.
“30 signed up on the first day but we have a few more interested that could not make it,” Conor told the Killarney Advertiser.
“It is great having Claudia on board, playing county camogie for Cork is not easy and she will be a role model for the girls.”
