A total €80,000 has been allocated for the construction of retaining wall adjacent to the Flesk River, in Ballycasheen under a regional and local roads programme announced by the Minister for Transport, Eamon Ryan on Tuesday.

Last year Cllr Donal Grady led calls for the construction of a safety barrier that is urgently needed in the area.
He raised concerns after a number of cars crashed into the Flesk River across the road from Bowler’s Garage.

“It is badly wanted,” he told the Killarney Advertiser shortly after Tuesday’s announcement. “The road is in danger of being swept away and there is no protection for cars – they can drive straight in there.”

Mayor Marie Moloney added: “I also welcome the funding for the erection of a retaining wall to alleviate flooding from the Flesk River which has caused so much hardship to residents and businesses in this area.”
