<h3>A seven-year-old Killarney boy was on cloud nine this week after receiving his very first gold medal at competition level.</h3>
Damon Murphy from Aghadoe, competed at the Gymnastics Ireland Gymstart Competition in the National Indoor Arena in Dublin on Sunday.
Competing against boys from all over Ireland the First Class Faha National School pupil was thrilled to secure the gold accolade.
Damon trains with Flares Gymnastics Club in Killarney and Douglas Gymnastics Cork.
&#8220;He has been training with Flare since he was three, his dad Danny Farkas is a coach there,&#8221; Damon&#8217;s mom Hayley told the Killarney Advertiser.
&#8220;He was up against eight others from all over the country and it was his first big competition. we&#8217;re very proud of him.&#8221;
Damon added that he wasn&#8217;t nervous and enjoyed the event.
&#8220;I had to do a routine and a vault. I did a dive roll.&#8221;
Meanwhile Hayley who runs Killarney Scorchers Cheerleading said it was a busy weekend as the team went to Gawlay for a competition on Saturday. There they won two gold, two silver and two bronze medals.
&#8220;It was our first competition since December 2019. It was nice to be there.&#8221;
