<h3> The darker winter days are drawing closer and to keep the mood positive one local club is planning a fitness programme.</h3>
Killarney Valley Athletic Club is to re-launch its Couch to 5k programme on Tuesday next, October 5.
 The programme will run every Tuesday and Thursday at 7.30pm for the months of October and November.
 The club previously ran a &#8216;Fit for Life&#8217; campaign but this year&rsquo;s programme has the added advantage of the use of the Arena on New Road which takes participants off the public roads on dark winter nights.
 &ldquo;Good, moderate exercise leads to a healthy mind and body,&rdquo; club chair Jerry Griffin told the Killarney Advertiser. &ldquo;We start off easy, but it will get progressively more difficult each week. It is a managed process with a nice atmosphere and we will be encouraging camaraderie between all the participants.&rdquo;
 Such is the popularity of the event following its launch earlier this month that all 50 places have been snapped up but a second Couch to 5k is planned for the New Year, potentially in February and March.
 The current one will reach its conclusion on Saturday, November 27, where the participants will join regulars at the Killarney parkrun for a 5km blast through the National Park.
