Walking down Upper New Street from the Old Town Hall, you’ll see several buildings of historic interest. On your right is Eddie Rocket’s Diner, built on the site of an 18th century church. Further down on the same side, near Elvery’s sports shop, was the Bishop’s Palace, and behind it a chapel. The arch a little further down leads to Chapel Place and Chapel Lane, home at one time to Killarney’s tannery. Animals were brought here from a slaughterhouse near High Street, and their hides treated to produce leather. The lane was also the centre of the Jaunting Car construction trade.
