Beautiful St. Mary’s Church of Ireland (not to be confused with the much larger St. Mary’s Cathedral) serves a small congregation as well as tourists. It was built in 1870 on the site of an ancient church—possibly the original Church of the Sloes (Cill Airne) after which the town is named. During the summer the church offers occasional Saturday tours (11am and 12 noon) of its 19th century stained glass windows and pipe-organ. Its free evening concerts of music from touring choirs and orchestras are well-regarded, and it hosts other cultural events throughout the year.
