Market Cross was once the site of Killarney’s main market. The original market building was replaced in about 1880 with the Old Town Hall, with the clock in its gable. This building was sometimes used for public entertainment—films were shown and boxing matches held in an upstairs room. The red brick façade you see today was originally whitewashed. The carriage arch leads to Old Market Lane, home to many traditional businesses at one time, including a cooperage (barrel-maker’s).
