21-acre island in Lough Leane, with 12th Century monastic ruins. Small boats leave Ross Castle from 9:30 daily for the 10-minute trip. The monastery was founded in the 7th century by St. Finian the Leper. Over several hundreds of years 'The Annals of Innisfallen', an account of the early history of Ireland, were written here by the monks. The Annals can be found today in the Bodleian Library in Oxford.
