<h4>A Writing Tradition:</h4>
A new initiative by Kilkenny County Council Library Service aims to bring back the joy of exchanging letters with pen pals overseas.&nbsp;
In collaboration with Ritter Public Library in Ohio, USA, the programme aims to revive the art of letter writing and will match people of similar ages and interests.
Aptly named ‘Friends with Pens’ library members can sign up for free and will be matched to a pen pal in the US.

The scheme is available to over 18’s members, starting on July 1st, and all branch libraries in Co. Kilkenny are taking part.&nbsp;
To register, simply call to your local library and scan the QR code or fill out an online application form.&nbsp;
They are gathering participants for the scheme until August 16th and after this date, the staff in Ritter Public Library Ohio will work on matching participants with one another.&nbsp;

First letters are expected to arrive towards the end of September to your local library and notification will be made by email.&nbsp;
Along with this first letter, those taking part will also receive three pre-addressed stamped envelopes, at no extra charge.&nbsp;
The scheme will run until mid- December. Afterwards, continued pen pal correspondence can be arranged privately.&nbsp;
Executive Librarian Aideen McDonald says:
&nbsp;“We hope that people will avail of this opportunity and that it will be an enriching experience. As the winter months draw in, and who knows where it will lead?”
