A trail for those interested in seeing luscious forests, and beautiful ruins of the outbuildings that once were part of the courtyard of Castlemorris house. When should you walk? As Castlemorris is mostly covered by forest you will be less affected by the weather thankfully due to tree cover, but in general, the Spring and Summer months will be drier, with conditions being more unpredictable in Autumn and Winter. A hidden gem buried between Hugginstown and Kilmaganny, in Aghaviller in Kilkenny, you will find a beautiful natural delight. Castlemorris Wood is owned and managed by Coilte, Ireland’s commercial forestry business, a state-owned company that strives to improve biodiversity, and to return the natural feel of one of Ireland’s most treasured assets, our woodlands. The land once formed the estate of Castlemorris House, known as one of the biggest houses in Ireland. This however was demolished in 1978, leaving remnants of the yard and a delightfully strange assortment of trees.
