Nestled in the gentle embrace of Kilkenny's countryside, you will discover the charming Ballykeeffe Amphitheatre. It sits at the base of the old Ballykeeffe Quarry, offering a glimpse of an open-air Italian theater right here in Ireland. The quarry, once a bustling slate mine, had been abandoned for years, fading into obscurity. But in the late 1990s, a group of dedicated volunteers saw potential where others saw neglect. Through hard work and determination, they brought their vision to life. By the year 2000, the amphitheater proudly hosted its first show – a performance by the Irish Defence Forces band and the Dublin Male Welsh Voice Choir, marking the beginning of a new chapter for this unique venue.
