<h3>A meet-up of locally-based remote workers took place in the town last month, celebrating a new milestone in the development of a remote working community in Gort and its hinterlands.&nbsp;</h3>
It's one of many set to take place across the county in the coming weeks as remote workers and volunteers strive to build robust, local support systems in the wake of the pandemic.&nbsp;
The event was organised by Laura Tannian, Enterprise Development Manager at Forge Works and Chapter Leader for Grow Remote. Minister of State Anne Rabbitte was also in attendance, along with several local figures eager to share stories of the town's heritage.&nbsp;
The group visited a number of landmarks around Gort town, including Boland's Lane, Christ the King statue, the graveyard, and many more.&nbsp;

Gort local Sean O'Connor led the group on a walking tour. He shared the history behind the monuments and buildings, giving locals and newcomers alike an insight into what Gort was like in days gone by.

Architect for the Galway County Council, Brent Mostret, was also present at the event to talk about the poignant history behind the 89-year-old Christ the King statue.&nbsp;
After the walking tour, the group headed to the Lady Gregory Hotel where they were met with soup, sandwiches, and prosecco.

It is the first time in Gort that remote workers have had the chance to meet up under the umbrella of the Grow Remote network. Events like these aim to instil a sense of connection and place in those who work remotely. As many of us know, working from home can be isolating, but with the support of the Forge Works centre and organisations like Grow Remote, it's hoped that more people will choose to work local.&nbsp;
