Fashion Relief founder, entrepreneur and media presenter, Lorraine Keane, has launched the Relove Fashion Competition, inviting secondary school students across the country to showcase their creativity while promoting sustainability.&nbsp;
The competition, now open for registration and funded here by Galway City Council, challenges young people to design and create outfits using preloved clothing and upcycled materials.
The Relove Fashion Competition provides participants with an opportunity to explore the world of sustainable fashion, learning essential skills such as repurposing, altering, and repairing textiles.&nbsp;
Contestants are encouraged to use unwanted garments from their own wardrobes, donations from friends and family, or items sourced from charity shops and swap events.The goal is to craft a wearable, sustainable outfit that reflects both creativity and environmental consciousness.

Throughout the competition, online inspiration sessions will be hosted by Arran Murphy of the Rediscovery Centre, offering participants guidance on techniques and materials.&nbsp;
Final submissions must include a completed outfit, before-and-after photos, a storyboard outlining the design process, and a video of the creation. Shortlisted participants will be invited to the grand final at the Rediscovery Centre in early 2025.
Lorraine Keane, founder of Fashion Relief and a long-time judge of the competition, expressed her excitement at the launch.&nbsp;
“It’s wonderful to see the Relove Fashion Competition grow from a regional event to a national one,” she said. “I’m looking forward to seeing the ingenuity and creativity of students across Ireland.”
Fergal Cushen, Environmental Awareness Officer at Galway City Council, emphasised the value of the competition for young people in Galway.&nbsp;
“This competition is a fantastic way for our youth to combine their artistic talents with environmental education. It helps them understand the value of clothing and textiles while learning how to repurpose and upcycle.”
The competition is supported by the Government of Ireland, the Regional Waste Management Planning Offices, the Rediscovery Centre, and local authorities.&nbsp;
The deadline for submissions is January 2025, with the shortlist set to be announced in February/March, and the grand final to take place in March/April 2025.
This initiative continues to grow, fostering a new generation of fashion-forward young people who are mindful of sustainability and environmental impact.&nbsp;
