<a href="https://xploreapp.io/galway" target="_blank">Galway’s</a> musical landscape is set to ring out to the tunes of the inaugural Galway TradFest, a week-long celebration taking place from Monday, November 11th to Sunday, November 17th.
This initiative, by Music Generation Galway, is designed to bring high-quality traditional music experiences directly to Galway’s youth and wider community.

<h4>A Unique Opportunity for Young Musicians</h4>
Galway TradFest will host an exceptional lineup of concerts, masterclasses, a session trail, and even instrument taster sessions, all designed to immerse participants in Irish traditional music, song, and dance. The festival also includes a dedicated educational programme named 'Geata' (Irish for gateway), which provides Galway’s young people with access to masterclasses in performance, song, and dance taught by experienced tutors and artists.
Eric Cunningham, Galway TradFest’s artistic director, highlights the festival’s mission to support young musicians within the county.&nbsp;
“All too often, too many of Galway’s young performers must travel outside the county to access high-level tuition,” he notes.&nbsp;
“With the advent of Galway TradFest and Geata, I envisage that this will change. We’re excited to host a local annual event where Galway’s young people can learn from visiting tutors and practitioners, and engage with visiting young performers with shared interests.”

<h4>Highlights of Galway TradFest</h4>
Galway TradFest will see performances from some of Ireland’s best-loved traditional musicians as well as emerging talents. Festival-goers can look forward to concerts and workshops led by renowned artists, theatre productions with a traditional Irish twist, and a lively session trail hosted across Galway’s iconic pubs.&nbsp;
It will comprise an eclectic concert programme featuring some of Ireland’s leading exponents of traditional music, song and dance.&nbsp;
Sharon Shannon, Beoga, Pauline Scanlon and Niall McCabe (amongst others) will all perform as part of ‘Le Chéile’ (Together) a ‘We are Music Generation Youth Orchestra Concert’ which will take place at University of Galway on November 16th.&nbsp;
Concerts at a variety of other venues will include performances from Iarla Ó Lionáird and Tim Edey, Máirtín O’ Connor, Cathal Hayden and Seamie O' Dowd, The Kane Sisters and John Blake, The Breath, Furry Village, The Half Room, Blath na hÓige, Tola Custy and Laoise Kelly, Niamh Ní Charra and Kevin Corbett, Ruth Smith and Fergal Scahill and guests, and a ‘Livefeed’ showcase concert which provides an opportunity for young bands and soloists to perform.
Venues include St Nicholas Collegiate Church, Campbells Tavern, An Taibhdhearc, Monroes, University of Galway and The Blackgate.

It marks an exciting new chapter for traditional music in Galway, one that is especially impactful for young people interested in developing their talents.&nbsp;
The festival promises not only to deepen the city’s musical heritage but also to create new pathways for young musicians to develop and connect with their Irish roots—all without leaving Galway, building a lasting legacy for traditional arts in the west of Ireland.
