Galway to Host 2027 World Championships for Marching Show Bands

Galway has been selected as the host city for the 2027 World Association of Marching Show Bands (WAMSB) World Championships, an event set to bring thousands of musicians and performers from around the world to the city from August 13–15, 2027.  

The prestigious competition is expected to generate 25,000 bed-nights, providing a significant economic boost to Galway’s hospitality and tourism sectors. 

Over three days, the city will welcome marching bands, drum corps, concert bands, and music ensembles, along with their families, in a celebration of international music and performance.

A Cultural Milestone

Mayor of Galway City, Councillor Peter Keane, hailed the announcement as a major cultural milestone:  

"It is a great honour for Galway City to host the 2027 WAMSB World Championships. This event will celebrate the best of international music and culture, bringing our community together and welcoming thousands of visitors to experience the unique hospitality of our city. Galway has a rich tradition of supporting the arts, and we are looking forward to working with our partners to ensure that this event is a memorable and exciting occasion for all involved."  

Galway City Council reaffirmed its commitment to supporting cultural initiatives that enhance the city’s global reputation. The 2027 WAMSB World Championships will mark a significant moment in Galway’s event calendar, further cementing its status as a leading hub for arts and culture.
