Galway-born comedian Seán Begley will bring his unique blend of humour and reflection to the Town Hall Studio this Thursday, September 26th at 8:30pm. His new show, 'Faux Pa', promises to be an evening filled with laughter, wit, and introspection, all delivered with Begley’s characteristic charm and creativity. Begley, who has been performing stand-up for just four years, describes 'Faux Pa' as a mix of the “ludicrous” and the “serious,” reflecting on everyday life, fatherhood, and the unexpected turns that come with being creative.&nbsp;
"During the lockdown, I had to channel my creative energy into different things," Seán explained.&nbsp;
"I started making memes, drawing cartoons, and telling stories online. Many of them were music-based. Some of these memes are in the show, and they’ve made people laugh—though a few caused a bit of trouble - because not everyone got the jokes!&nbsp;
It’s this journey of creativity and misinterpretation that forms the backbone of 'Faux Pa'.
"That’s what the show is about," he says, "being creative, taking risks, and sometimes people misunderstanding your intentions. We’ve all had moments where we've messed up, or misunderstood something."
It’s also deeply personal for Begley, shaped by the loss of his father, Pádriag O'Beaglaoich, at the end of 2022.&nbsp;
"While writing the show, my father passed away," he shared. "I wasn't mentally prepared for it, and it shaped the show.
"He’s not the entire focus, but he’s a central figure. He was a great guy, well-known in Galway. I talk about him in the show as a way to honour him. I try to keep the show light, but there are moments of seriousness, especially about loss and reflection. He attended one of my shows in the Galway Comedy Festival before he passed, and it was nice to have the family together for that."

In true Seán Begley fashion, the show also explores broader themes like imposter syndrome and the everyday pressures of balancing work and family life.&nbsp;
"I have four kids, and every day is a learning experience. I’m doing my best, but I’m not always getting it right. Sometimes you have to put yourself first, even though it might feel selfish, but you can’t take care of anyone else unless you take care of yourself. Life is about balancing work, family, and taking care of yourself."

While 'Faux Pa' delves into these heavier topics, Begley is keen to emphasise the fun and silliness that his audience can expect.&nbsp;
"It’s a mix of cartoons, memes, and funny stories about all the times I’ve messed up in life. I think we can all relate to that—we’ve all made mistakes," he continues.
&nbsp;"Humour is a powerful tool. The show has a lot of silly moments, with cartoons and memes, but there’s also a life philosophy behind it. The last show was emotionally heavy, and this time I wanted it to be more fun and silly for the audience."&nbsp;
<h4>A Galway Homecoming</h4>
For Begley, performing at the Town Hall Studio is a significant moment.&nbsp;
"It’s my first time performing there, and my mother is actually coming to this show, which is a big deal because she didn’t attend the last one. I’ve convinced her to come along this time, so that’s something special.
"I’m really looking forward to it!. I realised over time that the kind of show I do—a mix of the ludicrous and the serious—works better in a theatre setting. It’s a different experience than performing at a comedy club, where you don’t necessarily need to make that emotional connection with the audience."

"I've always had a creative side," he says, "even as a kid.
"I was into superheroes and cartoons, and I’d draw wildlife too. Comedy, for me, is a way of sharing my creativity with people. When you're in front of an audience, it's understood that you're going to talk for an hour, and that gives you the freedom to express all the silly ideas in your head without bombarding just one person with them! There’s something about connecting with strangers through humour that’s really special."
