Monroe’s Live in Galway's westend showcases a feast of music from Friday, December 13th to Thursday, December 19th, featuring festive parties, electrifying trad, pop nostalgia, and a tribute to the legendary George Michael.
The weekend kicks off on Friday, December 13th, with the soulful sounds of CUAS, a dynamic quartet inspired by the vibrant traditions of the Dingle Peninsula. Taking to Monroe’s Backstage venue at 7pm, CUAS features Méabh Ní Bheaglaoich on accordion and vocals, Nicole Ní Dhubhshláine on concertina and flute, Niamh Varian-Barry on fiddle, viola, and vocals, and Kyle Macaulay on guitar and bouzouki. Their live-recorded debut album, released earlier this year, celebrates the essence of West Kerry’s heritage with a mix of invigorating polkas, heartfelt songs, and spirited dance tunes.
Later that evening from 8pm, Monroe’s transforms into a hub of festive cheer with the Christmas Craicer party featuring funk-infused surf rock trio, The Bog Project. Galway’s DJ Flako will follow, spinning a mix of party hits and Christmas classics late into the night. With finger food, a complimentary drink, and the option to reserve group areas, it’s the ideal event for gatherings.
On Saturday, December 14th, Monroe’s Live welcomes back legendary electric trad group Furry Village at 9pm. Led by the talented Gerard Fahy, the band is known for their innovative fusion of Celtic tradition and rock. Their iconic rendition of ‘She Moved Through The Fair’ and their signature beat-driven style cemented their status as pioneers of the electric trad movement.
Later that evening, DJ Corey hosts the Blah Blah Blah throwback party. The ultimate celebration of pop nostalgia, this is a high-energy dance party with retro anthems and chart-topping hits.
The highly anticipated George Michael Tribute Night takes place on Thursday, December 19th at 9pm as James Bermingham and The Star People bring the hits to life. Together, they will perform classics such as Faith, Careless Whisper, and Club Tropicana. Following the tribute, DJ Flako returns with his Flashback set to keep the celebration going.
