Built in 1847 as a National school – an Irish primary school. It must have been effective at the time as the illiteracy rate fell from 53% in 1941 to 16% in 1890. The local community including the local drama group, The Wild Swans & the Gort Vibes Cinema Club, now use the hall for performances. The front railings are the starting point for our two local cycle routes that include Kilmacduagh Monastic Site and Thoor Ballylee, the home of WB Yeats for some 10 years.
