There's so much happening in this city of the tribes this Friday night and here we have just some of the exciting events on offer. From Daniel O'Donnell at Leisureland to the sold out Fat Boy Slim at the Galway Airport, August shows no signs of slowing down.
He’s here for one night only on the shores of Salthill at 8pm. Daniel O’Donnell will sing his heart out on the Wild Atlantic Way at Leisureland. His remarkable career forges ahead unabated, not only as a singer but also as a TV presenter, just another facet to his ever-expanding list of entertainment achievements. The Donegal-based singer, who is one of the most prolific and successful recording artists in the UK charts, is the only artist in the world to score a hit in the UK album charts every year since 1988, an unprecedented and unbroken 36-year span, and in doing so, he has outshone everyone from Michael Jackson and Madonna to U2 and the Rolling Stones. Galway welcomes the legendary Fatboy Slim this Friday at his sold out gig at the Galway Airport. His ‘Love Summer’ tour arrives on the heels of the 25th anniversary reissue of You’ve Come A Long Way, Baby. First released in 1998, the album became one of the defining records of the ‘90s, irrespective of genre. Swinging from hip-hop, to reggae and jangle pop, with this record Norman Cook broke stylistic ground and delivered a wildly original album, filled with imagination and huge hooks.
Originally from Dublin, Peter Byrne takes to the stage at The Quays live music hall in the heart of the Latin Quarter with the Glass Onion Band. The self-taught guitarist went to London in his 20’s and started his band ‘The Reason’ before relocating to Galway, where he established the ‘Glass Onion Band’ and took up a residency in the Quays Bar. He has shared the stage internationally with world renowned country and jazz artists and his original music is described as heartfelt, warm and passionate. He has toured at home and abroad to critical acclaim.
If you’ve attended an Evoke gig, you’ve likely enjoyed the lively atmosphere at the Skeff Late Bar and Kitchen. Evoke brings a mix of indie, alternative rock, and folk to their performances, which starts at 10pm. Their repertoire includes classic covers, rock anthems, and more. In addition to their regular gigs, Evoke is actively working on original tunes. Their commitment to creating genuine and emotionally resonant music has gained them recognition in the industry. The Skeff turns up the heat when Evoke takes the stage, offering a night filled with diverse musical styles in a lively yet grounded atmosphere.
We’re celebrating all things Pride at the Róisín Dubh in Galway’s westend this Friday night from 10pm as Mother returns with two of the Mother residents, Ghostboy and Ruth Kavanagh for a queer dance party. They are making their beloved annual pilgrimage to Galway for Pride season for this yearly rendezvous with the Róisín. Alongside this Friday night party they will also be debuting a Daytime Dance Party on Sunday August 11th from 2pm-8pm with DJs and live performances. Club 404 presents FATALIST with Jack Burke, T90 and Fergus McGrath for a stomping set of techno, house, and other subgenres of electronic dance music. Fans will know his ability to blend various styles, creating an immersive and eclectic experience at their backstage venue from 10:30pm.
