With award-winning global films, exclusive premieres and an extensive Irish language presence, The 36th Galway Film Fleadh kicks off in style from July 9th-14th at the Town Hall Theatre and Pálás Cinema.
Featuring a host of day and evening events, screenings, Q &amp; A and panel discussions, this is a unique chance to explore local, Irish and world cinema on the shores of the Wild Atlantic Way.
<h4>Top Highlights:</h4>
Highlights include the world premiere of ‘Mrs Robinson’ directed by Aoife Kelleher, taking place on July 13th at 4:30pm.
For the first time, former President and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mary Robinson tells her story in her own words.
Irish premieres feature several noteworthy films. ‘Fidil Ghorm’ directed by Anne McCabe, follows 10-year-old Molly’s quest to play the fiddle in a bid to wake her dad from a coma.&nbsp;
Based on Michael Morpurgo’s novel and featuring voices of Cillian Murphy and Sally Hawkins, the animated ‘Kensuke’s Kingdom’ debuts on July 13th at 11am.&nbsp;
The Irish Premiere of ‘The Teacher’ from Oscar nominated director, Farah Nabulsi on July 11th features a Palestinian school teacher, who struggles between political resistance and personal relationships.
&nbsp;‘Poison,’ directed by Désirée Nosbusch, stars Tim Roth and Trine Dyrholm as a formerly married couple who reunite at their child's grave.
<h4>A Birthday Screening For Imelda May:</h4>
Renowned singer-songwriter and poet, Imelda May, takes to the big screen on July 10th in the psychological thriller, ‘The People Before’.&nbsp;&nbsp;
It is all the more special for the star as she celebrates her birthday at the Galway Film Fleadh.&nbsp;

<h4>Football Fever:</h4>
In line with UEFA Euro 2024, the festival introduces a football-themed segment, including the international premiere of ‘Football Fever: Genoa Love Affair,’ a documentary on Genoa FC, premiering on July 13th at 11:30am.
Speaking about the 36th edition of the Galway Film Fleadh, Director of Programming, Maeve McGrath said;&nbsp;&nbsp;
“The 36th edition of the festival features the very best of new Irish cinema, alongside award-winning films from around the world. Irish language film is prevalent throughout the week, with Kneecap opening the Fleadh, and we have introduced new sections including a film lovers programme called CineFleadh Collection.”
Continuing programmes include Architecture on Film, Artist on Film, and a focus on Palestinian cinema. The Defender program addresses themes of social inequality and war, while ‘What The Fleadh?!’ presents a genre cinema line-up. As always, the fleadh features an exciting shorts film programme and the Galway Film Fair.
