A musician, dj and rapper who has played an important role in the Galway Arts community and music scene since he arrived in Ireland four years ago now faces deportation. 

Theophilus Ndlovu, the hip-hop artist also known as Touché, fled his native Zimbabwe to seek a better life after what he claims was years of abuse at the hands of his unofficial foster family. He was 20 when he saved up enough money mowing lawns and selling chickens to buy a ticket to Ireland and has never looked back.

“This is my family. Galway is where I found my voice. It has become my home. It is just where I’m meant to be.”

Theo is the founding member of 'Atmos Collective', a multicultural music project recently granted funding by the Galway 2020 committee, that facilitates music workshops around Galway “teaching, motivating and inspiring hundreds of young people along the way”, according to co-founder Alice McDowell, an Australian filmmaker and fiddler.

Since arriving in Galway he has played in numerous venues around the city including the Black Gate and the Roisin Dubh and has been instrumental in getting fellow asylum seekers and refugees involved in music collaborations.

On Thursday night in the Roisin Dubh his fellow musicians and friends from Open Mic, Citóg Records, the Melting Pot Luck Galway and Galway Anti-racism Network are putting on a night of pure entertainment to raise funds for his campaign costs. There’ll be performances from The Barceló Brothers, Jad Brian, The Curly Organ, Jack Lee, Tracy Bruen, Dead Horse Jive,  Black MC and Theo himself.
