In the first of our series, Niall Flynn, Sommelier at Michelin-starred restaurant Loam, has kindly given us recommendations for a beautiful red, white and sparkling wine to enjoy at home that are excellent value and available from stores around Galway. 
 

Red

Iuli Umberta Barbera 2018, €21.50 available from Sheridan's Wine Bar, Churchyard street, Galway 

Umberta is a fresh and pleasant red wine made from red grapes. Refinement of about 10 months in steel, it is bottled without undergoing clarification or filtering. Umberta has a beautiful ruby ​​red color. Aromas of fruit and red flowers stand out on the nose. In the mouth it is fresh, vinous, very smooth and juicy.

Antonutti Pinot Grigio, €14.50 available from Woodberry's Wine Shop, Middle Street, Galway

A wine with elegant aromas of acacia flowers, peaches and apples accompanied by fresh mineral notes. Racy palate with a nice citric consistency on the finish.

Sparkling

Cremant de Jura, €12.49 available from Aldi

Fantastically crisp and elegant with green apples, perfect acidity and persistent bubbles. Made from 100% Chardonnay, this wine has a sophisticated subtlety with stimulating fresh citrus notes and a lovely length.
