<h5><b>Croí Night Run Back with a Bang</b></h5>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This past week, the 8th annual Croí night run took place. Over 2,000 participants came together on a cold Friday evening to raise money and awareness for Croí, the </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">heart and stroke charity. The organisers were thrilled with the turn out, and the amount of people coming to show their support. 100% of the proceeds will go directly to supporting Croí services. This includes supporting Croí’s significant programme of work, across prevention and support initiatives for patients and carers, including Heartlink West (a free community phone line) and the Croí Courtyard Apartments, free to families in need while their loved ones receive heart or stroke care.</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> Make sure to </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">save the date for next year, Friday October 6th, 2023! <h5><b>University of Galway Surf Club &#8211; Plunge for Pieta</b></h5>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">On Wednesday the 12th from 5:30pm, The University of Galway Surf Club will be at Blackrock diving tower hosting Plunge for Pieta. The club is set to host the charity event to raise money for Pieta, a nonprofit organisation dedicated to ending suicide and helping those most in need. Complete with t-shirts, diving competitions, and prizes, this is an incredible effort on behalf of the surf club to help those most vulnerable. The club&#8217;s goal is to raise €500 through this charity event. <h5>Galway School Boy is a Published Author</h5>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Matthew McNena from Oranmore is a sixth class pupil at Gaelscoil de hÍde, Oranmore, he&#8217;s also a published author! Matthew entered an international writing competition organised by Make-a-Wish, and is one of 11 students now published in a children&#8217;s book, aimed at raising money for the charity. Matthew&#8217;s story, ‘Mythical Creature, Humans: A Look at Life on Earth from 2021&#8242; was one of hundreds of submissions, and the entire school is incredibly proud of his achievement! Congratulations Matthew! </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The competition was run with the support of tech company, Learning Pool, and the proceeds from the book will be donated to the Make-A-Wish charity, which grants life changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. <h5><b>Irish Women&#8217;s National Soccer Team Qualifies for the World Cup</b></h5>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Irish Women’s soccer team qualified for the World Cup after a win against Scotland last night! Galway natives Niamh Fahey and Heather Payne helped deliver the first time qualification win for Vera Pauw’s team. Ireland 1, Scotland 0 &#8211; after Amber Barrett’s game changing goal. Ireland’s first ever women’s football World Cup appearance, this is an amazing achievement from Ireland&#8217;s team, and we’re so excited to see more of their success.</span></p>
<h5><b>Increased Funding for Gaeltacht Summer Accommodation Providers</b></h5>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">There will be an increase in funding for families hosting people attending Irish colleges over the summer. The Minister of State for Gaeltacht, Jack Chambers, made the announcement on a visit to the Galway Gaeltacht. Minister of State Chambers said, “I am delighted to be able to announce these additional policies today for the benefit of the Irish language college system.” This move will help colleges thrive, and further benefit the attendees. We love the Irish language, and are excited to see steps being taken towards preserving the beautiful language!</span></p>
