Galway Weekend is a weekly series where city dwellers from near and far give us their take on great spots to visit for a quiet pint, tasty food and more, as well as unique places to soak up the beauty of Galway city and county.

If you've ever sampled the famous brunch of Dela Restaurant on Dominick Street you might recognise the friendly face of manager Sharon O'Sullivan. She joins us this week with great tips on where to make the most of Galway's culture, sights and sounds.

Presuming you had a signal, what 3 apps would you use on a desert island?
I’d have to have some music to listen to so Spotify would be number one. For my sanity I’d have to have my kindle app and my podcasts.


What’s your favourite place in the city?
I have to say the Westend. I’m very lucky to live in Moycullen where there is a very strong sense of community and that’s also prevalent here in the Westend.


Any hidden gem you would recommend for visitors to Galway?
Tra Sailin in Spiddal, don’t tell anyone, it's a gorgeous beach. We go back there every summer with the kids.


Where is your favourite place to grab a bite to eat?
Well now, I may be a tad biased here but the food in Dela is incredible. Everyone knows Dela as the best brunch in town but the evening menu is really lovely. What Joe and Margaret are doing, growing as much vegetables as possible to supply the restaurant, is remarkable. They work closely with Sylvain, our head chef, to create a delicious seasonal menu. All our meat and fish suppliers are local too which contributes to the quality and freshness. And as for the service...


What pub would you go to for:

A quiet pint? Regan's Pub in Moycullen or Taylor's in Galway.

A match? The Coachhouse in Moycullen or Taylor's in Galway.

Tunes? Has to be the Blue Note or anywhere Gigantic might reappear.


Any recommendations for a place to go on a first date?&nbsp;
We get a lot of first dates in Dela for brunch and dinner. Our cocktail menu helps to calm the nerves. I also love the Pálás Cinema, a fabulous building. Pint in the bar beforehand and a wander around the town afterwards.


Favourite walk or hike in Galway?
I love the walk from the Salmon Weir bridge down by the river to the Spanish Arch. You also can’t beat the prom. There's nothing like it on a Sunday morning.


Most picturesque place in Galway?&nbsp;
The top of Diamond Hill is spectacular, so worth the hike and when the sun is shining anywhere in Connemara it will blow you away. So beautiful&nbsp;&nbsp;


What are you up to for the weekend?
Most weekends are spent chauffeuring my three lovely children around Galway. This Saturday night we’re meeting up with some good friends for a bite to eat in John Keogh's. Sunday morning will be spent being pulled along the prom by my dog Alfie as we try to keep up with my son Jack on his scooter, and in the afternoon myself and Vinny will head out to watch Ireland beat England in the rugby.
