Workshop on Marine Mammals Áras na nGael, 8th February

In Galway, we’re blessed to be living with the Atlantic Ocean right on our doorstep. This workshop is a wonderful opportunity for children to learn more about the wildlife that inhabits the Wild Atlantic Way.&nbsp;

They’ll be able to learn skills such as how to react to a stranded whale or dolphin, how to be an effective marine conservationist and how to understand the acoustics behind dolphin’s communication.&nbsp;

The workshops are for children aged 7-13 years old. There are 2 three-hour workshops on the day: 9 am-12 pm or 2 pm-5 pm&nbsp;

Ireland v Wales Guinness Six Nations Monroes, 8th February

After last week’s tense match against Scotland, Ireland take on Wales in their second fixture of the Guinness Six Nations Championship on Saturday afternoon. Galway European Capital of Culture 2020 Opening Ceremony South Park, The Claddagh, February 8th

After the rugby why not make your way down to the Claddagh to enjoy the excitement and spectacle of the Opening Ceremony for Galway 2020 European Capital of Culture.&nbsp;

This is a free open-air event which will be officially inaugurated by President Michael D. Higgins and concludes a county-wide series of Fire Festivals held each night of the first week of February.

A community cast of 100s from towns and villages across Galway will join together for a unique performance blending local themes and traditions with music, spectacular lighting displays, drumming, and processions.&nbsp;

We hear there is rain forecast at the weekend so don't forget your wellies and waterproofs! If you're planning to stay out and party for the night then pack your dancing shoes, because the folks in Galway's Westend will have a pop-up cloakroom (beside Nova Bar) where you can leave your wellies and pick them up the following day. All proceeds go to Blue Teapot Theatre Company.&nbsp;

However, we do know that Colin is onto a good thing. (This time. We weren't so sure about his Crystal Swing phase). The Two-time Meteor award-winning Spillane crafts heartfelt folk songs with the storytelling skill of a seanchaí, his melodic tunes portraying themes across all emotional territories from dark melancholy to the hilarious wit of irreverent Cork humour. His music has a magical quality that Siobhán Long of the Irish Times has said transcends linguistic boundaries and is "world music for a new world.”&nbsp;
