<h4>Galway Climathon 2024: A Day of Innovation and Action for a Greener Future</h4>
On Friday, October 25th, a one-day event designed to spark innovation and collaboration among experts, entrepreneurs, students, and residents committed to tackling the urban challenges facing Galway takes place at University of Galway.
The <a href="https://xploreapp.io/galway" target="_self">Galway</a> City Climathon will be held at the Emily Anderson Concert Hall in the historic quadrangle from 9am-4pm, bringing together diverse sectors of the Galway community.&nbsp;
The Climathon invites participants to share and develop actionable solutions to address local environmental challenges.&nbsp;
Frances Fahy, Director of the Ryan Institute, expressed her excitement about the upcoming event, highlighting the Institute's ongoing commitment to fostering environmental research and community-driven solutions.

<h4>Climate Positive Ideas and Collaboration</h4>
"We are delighted to be inviting innovators, entrepreneurs, students, and interested people from all sectors across Galway city to join us on campus once again for this event,” said Fahy. “
"This year’s event is a partnership involving Galway City Council, the University’s Sustainability Office, and our long-term Climathon partners, the PorterShed. We are looking forward to hearing the many innovative and climate-positive ideas that emerge from the day to tackle local urban challenges.”
This year’s Climathon builds on a strong tradition of collaborative climate action.&nbsp;
Damien Redington, Climate Action Coordinator at Galway City Council, emphasised the significance of events like the Climathon in driving local change that can have a global impact.&nbsp;
“By bringing together bright minds from various sectors, Climathon empowers us to develop local solutions that can have a global impact. Galway is committed to being a leader in sustainability, and this event plays a key role in driving forward our climate action plan goals,” he said.

<h4>World Cities Day</h4>
The <a href="https://xploreapp.io/galway" target="_self">Galway</a> City Climathon is part of a global initiative under the European Institute of Innovation and Technology's Climate-KIC, which holds simultaneous 24-hour Climathons across major cities worldwide. This year, the event aligns with Urban October and World Cities Day, further underscoring the vital role cities play in leading the charge against climate change.
Participants will brainstorm, collaborate, and share their ideas for making Galway a more resilient, greener city. The solutions and actions that arise from the Climathon will not only address the unique challenges Galway faces but also contribute to the broader global conversation on climate resilience.
